If you’re an entrepreneur on the brink of burnout, this one’s for you!
Working long hours with little to no sleep, constantly on your phone, checking emails, being around loved ones but never truly being there in the moment.
Yep, these are all the tell-tale signs of an entrepreneur that’s close to burnout. I should know, I’ve gone through my fair share of burnouts over the first decade of my career.
So, how do you end this vicious cycle of work and burnout?
For me, it took 3 simple rules:
One of my non-negotiables is getting at least seven and a half hours of sleep every night. This ensures that I’m well rested and ready to operate at my optimal capacity the next day, so I don’t compromise on this.
For you, it could be having half an hour to yourself in the morning, going for an evening walk every day, or scheduling a date night once a week. Once you decide what you want to prioritize, it becomes easier to make room for it.
One of my biggest mistakes as a young entrepreneur was not delegating tasks to my team. When my business grew and I started getting more clients, the right thing to do would have been to delegate. Instead, I made myself even more accessible and I dug in deeper.
Since then, I’ve learned to let go and delegate work where necessary. Whenever I feel any hesitation about this, I just ask myself: “What’s more important? Doing everything myself, exactly the way I want, or my peace of mind?” When framed in that way, the choice becomes a no-brainer.
This has been another game-changer for me. I used to block every minute of my calendar with things to do. There was no space to breathe! So I made myself leave unscheduled blocks of time in my calendar every day.
On busy days, it can be as little as 20 minutes, and on other days, up to a few hours. I use this time to do something that brings me joy – go for a walk, catch up with friends, experiment in the kitchen with my niece Phoebe – anything that fills my cup so I can pour from it once again.
If you find yourself on the brink of burnout, adopt these 3 rules and you’ll definitely start to see positive changes in your life.
Let’s soar,
